Reflecting On My Time At College

Reflecting on my time at College, I struggle to find a way to meaningfully summarise three years of such diverse projects,  my work has taken me to new  highs, working with a range of inspiring people and organisations tackling a variety of social issues. I am now thinking of my future within Community Photography around the Greater Manchester area hoping to get involved in local projects here are a few below I have been looking at.

If anyone has a project that would benefit from my services as a photographer please get in touch Diane@dianescottthomas.com.

RECLAIM exists to challenge the homogeneity that exists in the leadership profiles across UK society. In politics, economics, media, culture and sport, a recognisable working-class presence is rapidly disappearing. We believe that at a time of widening social inequality, young people who demonstrate clear leadership capabilities should be supported in their ambitions. Successful adults have relied on impressive networks to reach the top, friends’ parents who offer work experience, unpaid internships within top firms, Oxbridge degrees.  RECLAIM is an alternative pathway that offers working class young people opportunities and access, encouraging them to remain their authentic selves whilst building pride in their communities. We’ve witnessed generations of lost leaders who haven’t been provided with the tools to fly because they were unseen, living in the shadows of UK society. With RECLAIM’s support, the periphery can move to the centre and be heard. We find leadership qualities in overlooked young people and support them into positions of power and influence; within their families, peer-groups, schools and communities.
PhotoVoice’s vision is for a world in which no one is denied the opportunity to speak out and be heard. PhotoVoice’s mission is to build skills within disadvantaged and marginalised communities. To achieve this, we utilise innovative participatory photography and digital storytelling methods. These skills enable individuals to represent themselves and create tools for advocacy and communication. Through this, and through developing partnerships, we deliver positive social change. They are partners with Safety, Z-Arts Manchester.
