After spending two full days in the studio I am finally ready to print, my test strip has printed really well and I can’t wait to see the final results.
Reflecting On My Time At College
Reflecting on my time at College, I struggle to find a way to meaningfully summarise three years of such diverse projects, my work has taken me to new highs, working with a range of inspiring people and organisations tackling a variety of social issues. I am now thinking of my future within Community Photography around the Greater Manchester area hoping to get involved in local projects here are a few below I have been looking at.
If anyone has a project that would benefit from my services as a photographer please get in touch Diane@dianescottthomas.com.

Although there are many symbols in the original Vanitas style paintings I could have incorporated into the photographs I chose to only use Janet’s belongings as I didn’t want any distractions. - Although after my first shoot using a plinth to display these items I did deicide to use was an oak table which I thought looked was more appropriate to the styal.
Lighting and Camera Settings
To mimic window light, I placed continuous lighting to the left side of the table
Photoshop
I was very happy with the way my shoot went yesterday after a small amount of work in Photoshop, helped by one of my fellow students Solomon Hughes my photos were ready to do a test strip with Graham Holt. The strip came out fine I thought I would be using three of the photographs but after talking to Greg he persuaded me to print five for the show!
The test strip printed well time to go into full production.
Studio Test Shots Take 2
Today I was in the Studio bright and early 8:30am armed with new supplies, after watching Apples, Pears and Paint How to Make a Still Life Painting I think I have solved the issues with yesterdays photographs, I have brought in an old oak table fingers crossed It will make all the difference. I’m very pleased with the results.
Studio Test Shots
my first day in the studio I had taken a black background cloth with me and used a plinth as a table as the day went on the shots got better I was using low key lighting with barn doors on the head with flash and a continuous light on the back ground that gave a nice glow when needed, I liked the light but the photographs just didn’t look right after speaking to Sam I went home and watched the BBC documentary Apples, Pears and Paint How to Make a Still Life Painting again to see if I could spot what was wrong.
Emily Speed
Her interests lie in the relationship between people and buildings and her work explores the body and its relationship to architecture. The idea of shelter and the inhabitant is at the core of much of her work; how a person is shaped by the buildings they have occupied and how a person occupies their own psychological space.
